Domesaurus' first day out to the water

So here we are with Domesaurus at the test site (old swimming pool of USM).

Domesaurus didn't float perfectly but it survived with a dry flag!

To float Domesaurus was our top priority.
But what matters most after the test was what we gain from the experience of the Domesaurus production.
3 actors had brought Domesaurus to life.
From Restu Hostel to HBP, then to the pool, we had our creativity & skills tested with bamboo and plastic bottles and of course, our muscles trained.

For me, it was fine that we failed to make a perfect float in the end because we had fun
and I have learnt about how to look at failures.
Failure, I believe, is another step closer to success.
Sometimes I would rather fail something because failure will stimulate us to learn more eagerly and failure takes away the excessive pride that will do us no good.

Cheers for failures for we know that it will still take us somewhere.
Somewhere where our perspective leads us to.

Bamboo Dome (Group Project) 3

Our bamboo has finally arrived.
We did our sawing at Desasiswa Restu.

Here is Sue Anne.

Me measuring the bamboo before cutting.

All halved. The original length of the bamboo is around 3m.
Our base/floor of the floating dome will be 1.5m.

I wonder how we are going to move all of them to HBP.
HAHA!

Bamboo Dome (Group Project) 2

This mini market has it all.
I went there this afternoon with my team mates Stephanie and Sue Anne
to survey some materials for our DOMESAURUS
floating bamboo dome project.

After our visit, we have finalized our materials.
We will be using recyclable materials like plastic bottles
to form the dome on top of the bamboo base.

Scribbles and refined sketch of DOMESAURUS.

Sue Anne and Stephanie with the sketching of
DOMESAURUS in Google SketchUp.

Bamboo Dome (Group Project)

Rough sketches of the floating dome.
In order to fit the dome with 3 people, we have decided to
do a 1.2m X 1.2m bamboo base.

The estimated length (1.2m) for the sides of the base.
The picture shows 2 sides of the base with measuring tape.

Conclusion of the day..
Next task - To survey the materials we need.
Then, we shall finalize our model sketch.

GEODESIC DOME

We were given our 2nd assignment last Wednesday and it's dome making.
I went to this website http://www.desertdomes.com/domecalc.html to calculate the proportions and measurements for my dome.
As for my dome, I chose a 2V dome with radius of 10cm.

Materials needed : Hot glue gun (UHU glue was too slow to dry) & bamboo sticks.

To start, cut the sticks according to calculated measurement at the website.

Next, construct a base. (mine was a decagon) Once arranged, glue them
together on a card board base.

Then, continue with the 2nd level : the triangles.

Followed by 3rd level.

DONE!

Things to take note :
The joints - The stability of the dome all depends on the method and the way of how the bamboo sticks are joined. That's why i chose hot glue gun instead of UHU glue as UHU glue takes a longer time to dry.

The Six Elements of Production

The 6 vital elements in Production :
Intention . Actor . Act . Rule . Product . Place

From this picture, we can see the intention of development. The open ground or cleared hill will soon turn into a new residential area.
The constructions are bounded by rules and regulations according to the law.
The product will then be the completed houses.

Location (place) : Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur (as viewed from Bukit Tabur).

Here, the hikers (actors) are in action intending to hike/climb up the mountain.
The safety measures (rules) are taken so that nobody will get hurt during the climb.

Location (place) : Bukit Tabur, Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur.

This is a view of my secondary school hall on my graduation day in 2009. From this picture we see intention of the staffs and students (actors) to prepare (act) for the big day.
The products : The chairs are arranged and the seating of guests are according to the protocol (rules) of the function.

Location (place) : Student's Activity Centre, SMJK Chong Hwa, Jalan Gombak, KL.

The singing (act) of graduation song by the students (actors) as an intention to celebrate our graduation.

Location (place) : SMJK Chong Hwa, Jalan Gombak, KL.

These buildings are the products of the urban development in Kuala Lumpur.
On the field, we can see people (actors) running (act) towards the other end of the field.

Location (place) : Dataran Merdeka.

The picture above tells about the intention of the students (actors) to return (act) home after school by boat.
We can also see the students following the rules of the school by wearing their uniforms.

Location (place) : Pulau Ketam, Selangor.
